Special Educational Needs

Pupils at West Vale Academy all have different learning needs and are at different stages in their learning, across all the different areas of our curriculum. At times, some children may require additional support. Special Educational Needs, according to the SEND Code of Practice (2014) is across four areas of need:

  • Cognition and Learning
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Social, Communication and Mental Health difficulties
  • Sensory and/or Physical needs.

Some children may have additional needs that span more than one area for SEND.

At West Vale Academy, every effort is made to be an inclusive environment for all pupils. Further details are in our SEND Policy on our Policies page

All SEND children at West Vale have the same opportunities as their peers. We endeavour to ensure that our SEND children are able to attend clubs regularly and

have adapted learning environments as necessary. We are also keen to prepare our SEND learners  for later life by offering travel training, extra transition visits to their secondary schools and working to find them a ‘buddy’ who can support them at their new school.

At West Vale Academy, our SENCO is Mrs Akroyd.

You can contact her via 01422 372804 or by emailing admin@westvaleacademy.org.uk
