Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Statement

The French Curriculum at West Vale Academy has been designed in accordance with the National Curriculum and is taught in dedicated lessons across Key Stage Two. As we believe strongly in the benefits of introducing modern foreign languages at an early age, classes in the Early Years and Key Stage One also engage in more informal language learning through songs.

From the Early Years, children are encouraged to develop a positive attitude to modern foreign languages. Language lessons foster their curiosity and deepen their cultural understanding of the world and enable children to express their ideas, and understand and respond to speakers in all four key skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Our French curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of languages and provides a sound foundation for the continuation of language learning at Key Stage Three and beyond. In this way, we will ensure that we help to equip pupils with the essential skills to be adaptable, confident, resilient language learners within a global environment.
