History

We are not makers of history. We are made by history.””.

The History curriculum at West Vale Academy has been designed in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum. It provides opportunities for pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to analyse, appraise and critically evaluate historical events, people and time periods.
To help pupils with historical interpretation and enquiry, we regularly make use of our local area for visits, such as the Piece Hall, Clay House and Bankfield Museum. Visitors to school are also a great source of information providing pupils with expert understanding and access to artefacts and resources.
As pupils progress through our curriculum they will develop the critical skills needed to analyse, develop perspective and identify challenges in the past, present and future. In this way we ensure that children become confident, independent and inquisitive Historians.
